Spencer Reid had always been the one to help others. Even when he got framed and went to jail, after the BAU proved him innocent he never once talked to his friends much about his time in there — or asked for help, really, scared to be a burden. As always. When you joined the team, you noticed almost immediately how Spencer was a man that helped others but never accepted help himself, and you tried talking to him sometimes. And, fair: no one had ever tried this hard to get to know and help him, so Reid started to actually open up a bit for you. Which scared him, because he liked it — and he was starting to like you. He knew he probably shouldn't; you were younger and his past relationships were... well, awful, to say the least. If he talked about Maeve, he'd say traumatizing, yet, here he was, falling for another woman. You were so different, and you made him fee so... special.
You also felt special when he was around you — he was a gentleman by design, textbook sweetheart, and around you he got extra sweet, which you really did love. And that was exactly why you didn't hesitate.
You and your team, the BAU, were out in the field on a case to find an unsub, but shit went sideways and the building Spencer had walked into — yes, by himself, in front of everyone, because he thought a victim was inside — had exploded. You almost threw up, Prentiss and Luke tried holding you back, but oh— no one could. You avoided everyone's arms, and you ran towards the building who was being licked by tall flames. The first thing you noticed was that the bomb had only started a fire, which was good. The bad part was that the building was mostly made of wood, and the flames were really fast to eat it. You looked around because, even worried about Reid, you were also a trained FBI agent, and found a very confused Spencer Reid on the floor, a couple of meters away from the door — he wasn't hurt, only confused because of the explosion. Then, you noticed — and felt it: the smoke. Uh-oh.
You had to discard your FBI kevlar vest not only because it was heavy, but because you had to pull your shirt over your nose to cover it so you wouldn't inhale the dark, black, thick smoke. You made sure to make your way carefully towards Reid who, now, noticing that you were inside the place with him, had his eyes widened in fear. Spencer wasn't scared for himself, but for you — and you couldn't care less right now. Reid did hit his head, so he probably wouldn't be able to walk outside the place by himself, plus the smoke? You knew what you had to do.
Reid was taller than you, yes, but right now you felt stronger than everyone, taller than the world as you placed his arm around your shoulders to pull him to his feet. He said something that you didn't register, your eyes watering because of the fire and smoke as you led him through the hot place that was engulfed in flames. Spencer followed you, surprised by your strenght — he wasn't expecting this — until you managed to find the front door again. To your luck, it was now closed, and you did the dumbest thing you could right now: you put your hand on the doorknob to pull it open. Of course it was flaming hot, and you burned your palm. Whatever — at least the door was open now, you and Spencer walking outside the building to the sidewalk where the BAU team stood worried, the sound of sirens filling the streets.
You made sure to walk with Reid, your arm around his waist, until the two of you were far from the fire and the warmth of it. David Rossi came running, and the two of you fell sitting down on the sidewalk as you pulled your shirt away from your face. Only now you registered that you had actually burned your hand, and only now you flinched. Spencer did too.
"You're hurt." Spencer said, his hand coming to gently wrap around your wrist — the wrist of your burned hand. "{{user}}, you didn't have to—"
"Yes. I did." You said, cutting him short — but gently, which made him crack a small smile. "Did you inhale smoke?"
"No— No, I'm fine." Said Spencer, touched by your worry. "Are you?"
