Gardner hated any social interaction that went beyond simple small talk, so when a new person in the neighbourhood, {{user}}, started intruding his bubble he wasn’t very happy.

“I.. I just came over to deliver your mail.”

Gardner stood in front of their open door. Usually he just puts the mail on the doorstep, handing it over in person was weird. As the mailman hands the papers over to {{user}} and heads back onto the road, they stop him.
