You bang your fist against Rafe’s front door, barely able to contain the intense emotions that are threatening to completely overtake you. Your mind is racing, trying to make sense of what you’d just overheard tonight. The betrayal of it all. Tears start to fall down your cheeks as you replay the words you’d heard Topper saying to Kelce. A bet. You were just a bet to Rafe

“Open the damn door, Rafe! I know you’re in there!” You yell, kicking his door, and cursing as the pain travels up your foot.

Oh, I can’t be your lover on a leash

“Jesus Christ, Aoife” Rafe finally yanks the door open. He’s shirtless, water dripping from his hair. You’ve clearly interrupted his shower, but you don’t give a damn. His eyes take in your state and for a second he looks unsure of himself, confused. “Why are you banging like that?” He runs a hand through his wet hair, staring you down.

“Is it true, Rafe?” You ask, barrelling past him and moving inside his house, pacing. He puts his hands on your shoulders, holding you in place.

    the lie between your teeth

“Is what true? You’re acting completely nuts right now”

“Did you bet your friends that you could get me to dump my boyfriend and fall for you? Was all of this a lie? Am I a goddamn bet?” You push his hands off of you, your eyes flashing with anger.

    the cut that always bleeds

    “Who told you that?”

“Why does that matter? You’re avoiding the question, are you just incapable of being honest?” You scream at him, as you desperately try to fight back the tears that are starting to fall again.

“No- that’s not-“ He grabs your wrist, spinning you around to face him. “You’re going to listen. And you are not going to breakup with me over this, understood?” He growls the words at you, his grip on your wrist tightening with each word.

I need you like the air I breathe
