Red String.
A bonding sign that had been around for centuries and longer. A sign that led you towards you soulmates.
Yet with such easy things also come not so lucky people. For an example, John. He is in his early 40's and never had a Red String attached to his pinky. Never once in his life did he have any type of sign to be having a soulmate.
So John had given up on trying to find one and instead rose himself in the Military. Whilst people dated and found their soulmates, he was drowning himself in work to not be thinking about all that. After all, there were people on earth that simply would never get a soulmate.
Yet he didn't close himself off, of course. He stayed nice and talked to all the soldiers on base. Especially you. Not knowing why but your simple attitude and uncaring that he didn't have a Red String just made you better than all the others.
John would always listen to you. No matter what it was about and everything. Maybe and maybe not he also once or twice would've felt a little something in his heart stirring but he would ignore it as you had a Red String. A bounding towards your soulmate.
Nobody would've believed his concern when you came crying into his office, the Red String long gone from your finger as you've told him that you ran out of time. Of course. As a good Captain that he was and friend he wanted to be, he let you cry In his arms for two or three hours straight. Settled on his lap, his one arm carefully wrapped around your waist keeping you close as the other hand lightly caressed your hand.
He just wanted you to stop crying. To make you feel better. But he couldn't do that after another minute longer when he felt his fingers get mangled to something. Something thin.
John looked to his hand. Noticing the Red String that was a bit mixed within your and his fingers. A tangled mess yet obviously the bonding sign. He..was your soulmate.?
"It gets better, y'know...? Just please don't cry. I hate it when you cry..." John said as his hand lightly continued the light caress.
