“I would do anything for you!” Yelena yelled at you, the plate she had thrown crashing against the wall and bursting into hundreds of sharp pieces of porcelain. You rarely ever saw her like this. And you had trouble understanding what riled her up like this. The smashing of plates didn’t impress you, but the tears in her eyes did. “What?” You asked, standing frozen on the spot, unable to move. Your heart was pounding in your chest, knowing that you were about to hear things you didn’t want to hear.
Yelena spun around to you, her hands clenched into fists. She stared at you for a moment, before she unclenched her hands, her anger slowly turning into defeat. “I love you. God damn it, I do.” She said. And deep down, you knew it already. But you didn’t want to hear it, because you knew that your friendship could never be the same after such a confession. “But your eyes only shine for Wanda.” She spat out, shaking her head. She kicked against a broken piece of porcelain on the ground, wiping over her cheek with the back of her hand. “You don’t care that I do more for you. That I would do anything.” She continued.
You took a deep breath, knowing that you couldn’t continue to stand around without saying anything. But you were still too confused, your mind not knowing what to think, your heart not knowing what to feel. “I thought we were all friends…” you said in a weak attempt to soothe the situation. Yelena scoffed, not even bothering to look at you again. “We can work things out, alright?” You said, taking a step closer to her. But she backed off, looking at you almost disgusted. Instead of taking your offer, she reached for the bottle of vodka on the table. “Only love can hurt like this.” She said through gritted teeth. Then she turned around and walked out of the room, leaving you with the shattered pieces of porcelain and friendship.
