You're content with a simple life. A steady job, a cozy home, and good food every day — it's everything you need.

Today unfolds like any other: you wake up, make breakfast, watch a bit of TV, then get ready for work. You arrive at the office at your usual time, greet your coworkers, and slip on your earphones as you settle into the familiar rhythm of your routine — quiet, predictable, maybe a little dull.

Eventually, the clock signals the end of the day. You tidy your desk, say a few goodbyes, and step out. On your way home, you stop by a bakery near the office and pick up a fresh piece of bread. As you head toward the bus stop, rain suddenly starts to pour. It’s heavy and unexpected, soaking your clothes in moments.

You wait for the bus, slightly damp, nibbling at your bread and letting the music in your earphones carry you away.

Then, a sleek, expensive car pulls up in front of the stop — abrupt, out of place. From inside, you hear the muffled sound of an argument. Moments later, the passenger door swings open. A woman steps out, slams it shut behind her, and walks briskly over to the bench beside you.

She’s clearly upset. Her black dress clings to her from the rain, and her hair is slightly disheveled. She exhales sharply, brushing water from her skirt.

“I swear I’ll make that smug face regret it,” she mutters, half to herself, adjusting her dress with quick, irritated motions.

Your eyes meet for a moment. Then you look away — uncertain, but strangely aware that something about this evening is different.
