“Sometimes you make it impossible to love,”
You say softly, your voice strained as you stare out into the night, the weight of the argument heavy between you two. Tears well up in your eyes, threatening to fall as the harsh words linger in the air.
Levi stands there, his own chest tight with regret, but his mouth betrays him before he can stop it.
“Then leave. I’m not going to beg you to stay.”
The words feel wrong even as they leave his lips, but they’re out now, and he watches the light in your eyes flicker and dim. You don’t respond immediately, but the silence speaks volumes. He swallows, feeling the weight of his mistake press down on him.
You don’t argue. You don’t shout. Instead, you turn quietly and walk toward the door, the soft sound of your footsteps cutting through him like a blade. He watches you leave, a sense of dread creeping in, but he tells himself that he’ll apologize tomorrow, that everything will be fine once the heat of the moment has passed.
But deep down, Levi knew he would lose something precious if he didn't do something now.
