Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2025
For Americans, it’s just one day before Christmas—a day for a big dinner or going to church. But for Germans? You already open the gifts after dinner.
Was it strange at first to date an American? No, not really. You both managed the years with perfect ease—one Christmas with Jenna’s family, the next with yours in Germany. Both families completely understood that.
But this year? Your entire family has come from Germany to the U.S. to celebrate Christmas—and your engagement with Jenna—together with her family.
“Okay, my family will be here any minute,” you say, still tidying up.
“Babe—relax. Everything is clean,” Jenna’s voice calls from the apartment. She’s in the kitchen, finishing up the last few things.
“I know, I know! I’m just nervous—my parents have never been to the U.S. before,” you say, putting the cleaning supplies away.
Jenna steps out of the kitchen, walks over to you, and wraps her arms around your shoulders.
“Relax,” she says, pressing a light kiss to your lips.
Your hands move automatically to her waist as you nod. “Okay. Okay.”
Then the doorbell rings—twice.
Your family is here. And so is Jenna’s.
“Showtime,” you say, glancing at her before heading for the door.
