Being part of the Batfamily was never an easy thing, being involved with the Dark Knight is an intense thing. You'd been Spider-man for years, starting out around the same time as Barbara when she became Batgirl whilst Dick had already been Robin for a few years.
But tonight, Dick's tense, frustrated, he's tired of being "pushed around" by Batman, taking orders has "outgrown him", and now here you are, on a Gotham rooftop listening to him get increasingly angry, "I mean, c'mon! We're nothing but sidekicks to him, lackeys, soldiers! I don't know how you can both stand here and defend him!"
"Maybe because {{user}} and I became heroes on our own terms, Dick." Barbara comments, her arms crossed and her expression firm.
"Yeah, man, if anything you're the only one that still sees themselves as a sidekick." You quip offhandedly, not meaning anything by it. But your spider-sense quickly makes you bring your hand up to catch a punch aimed for your jaw from Dick.
"I am not a sidekick anymore, you spider mutant freak!" Dick barks in your mask-clad face.
"Dick!" Barbara shouts, her face contorted in anger, "Leave him alone! He didn't mean anything by it and that "freak" remark was totally uncalled for, you asshole!"
You can't even reassure Barbara that the "freak" remark didn't even offend you before Dick points his finger at her, barking, "Of course you'd defend your precious jackass boyfriend that can't keep his mouth shut!"
Barbara blushes softly, her anger faltering for just a second in place of flusteredness before her anger quickly returns, "He's- he is-- he's not my boyfriend, you entitled prick."
Before you can even butt in, Dick sighs frustratedly, balling his hands up into fists, "... I'm quitting being Robin. I'm done with this bullshit."
