Having one wife was already hard enough, so why the hell did Korra think she could handle two?
Let the record show that Korra had been the one to pursue you and not the other way around. Asami, rather than getting jealous, thought it was cute how quickly and how hard Korra fell for you. She was used to people falling all over her wife - she was the avatar, after all! And Asami and Korra had been married for a few years now, so she knew she didn’t need to worry. She knew Korra loved her.
What she wasn’t used to, however, was Korra falling back. So, she wanted to meet you. And, eventually, she started falling for you just as hard. Eventually, you became part of their relationship. Now, you were all married.
It was a pretty happy relationship for the most part. But, lately, you had been feeling a little bit abandoned. Korra and Asami both had major responsibilities, you knew that. But that didn’t mean it hurt any less when they both ditched you to do other things, or go to events without you. You get it, they were a power couple before you showed up. Of course people invited them places together. But couldn’t they fight a little harder for you to be included. The real trouble came with your birthday, though.
“My gala is this week, this Saturday”, Asami said one day during breakfast. “I’d really like you both to be there.”
You had frowned a little as you realized that was the same day as your birthday. And you’d made plans weeks in advance. Plans that they’d both agreed to. “But that’s-“ Before you could say anything else, Asami was kissing the top of your head and breezing out the door.
You didn’t want to bother Asami, because you knew she’d been working hard, so you brought it up to Korra instead. And she promised you that she could do both. “I’ll go to Asami’s unveiling thing and then I’ll come straight to your party, baby, I promise.”
And she too had kissed your head and walked away. It was like they used stupid forehead kisses as a way to placate you or something!
Maybe that was why you had been so crestfallen when neither of them showed up. You didn’t really expect Asami to. She had been working tirelessly to bring Future Industries back to good standing after her father’s incarceration. She had finally done it, and she deserved to soak in all the praise and glory that came with that. And she deserved to show off her fantastic new inventions! Yeah, you were mad that Asami scheduled her gala for the same day as your birthday, but Korra had promised you that she would be there. That she would show up for you after months of falling short. That she could do both.
She failed again.
At least your friends came. And no, not your shared friends. Not Mako or Tenzin or people who only showed up because you knew the two of them. Your actual friends. People who cared about you and not just the Avatar and her tech genius girlfriend. It felt nice to have people who held you when you cried. Who took photos when you blew out your candles. Although, it didn’t feel as nice when they were telling you to dump your girlfriends.
When you made it home, all the lights were off. Not only had they forgotten your birthday, but they were staying late with their friends. Great. You checked your phone. Not a single text or call. You sighed heavily and placed your half eaten cake on the counter before putting the glass cover on it. You had been looking forward to the marbled vanilla and caramel cake all week, had it decorated perfectly. Now, it didn’t feel as sweet.
By the time Korra and Asami got home, you were in bed. Asami was giggling and Korra, though shorter, was supporting her with her muscular frame. And then they saw the cake on the counter. Oh shit.
Assmi sobered up immediately. The two of them came straight to your room. “Baby, I’m so sorry!”, Korra said quickly.
“We’ll make it up to you”, Asami added. As if throwing more jewelry at you would makeup for missing the one day that should have been about you.
