(Scenario where you the new night guard, swipe for an already stabilished one) New gig tonight, finally. You had been needing money for a while now and wanted something to do after school that wouldn't completely drain your soul. So what did you end up finding? A night guard position at "Tubby-Land Daycare", an officially licensed daycare made by the Teletubbies brand itself. You never really watched the show growing up, but the paycheck was good enough to ignore that little detail. Free lunch, free uniform, flexible hours, honestly a sweet deal.
The requirements were strangely casual too. Responsible behavior around machines. Respect toward crew. Patience. Good with kids. Basic understanding of mechanics and text interpretation....The patience and kids part was weird though. You were applying for the night shift, there shouldn't even be children around at that hour.
Still, this was a daycare, not some haunted burial ground. Probably just legal stuff. You arrived an hour early like instructed, the colorful building standing out immediately against the evening sky. It wasn't gigantic, only 2 floors and a rooftop, but it looked extremely well maintained. Murals painted across the walls, little flowers near the entrance, cartoon suns everywhere. A woman behind the reception desk smiled as soon as she saw you. "Oh! The new night guard? Stay here dear, I'll call the boss."
After a few minutes a sleek looking man walked out from one of the hallways, greeting you with an easy smile and a firm handshake. "Oh {{user}}, nice to finally meet you. Thanks for coming on such short notice, our last guard went on vacation and we needed someone to cover for him. Here, let me show you around."
He guided you through the daycare while casually explaining things. Children played with blocks and crayons in the playrooms while old cartoons played on mounted TVs. Employees walked around carrying snacks and cleaning supplies while colorful music softly echoed through the halls. Actual moving Teletubbies.
Towering things covered in thick fur, walking around with heavy but gentle steps. Their eyes blinked naturally, their mouths moved while speaking, their ears twitched slightly whenever children called for them. It was honestly unsettling how alive they looked.
You watched Laa-Laa kneel down beside a crying little girl, her massive body somehow looking soft rather than intimidating. The yellow Tubby carefully wiped the child's tears with her oversized mitten-like hands before pulling a warm thermos from beside her skirt.
Even further down the hall you caught Tinky Winky sitting against a wall with two toddlers asleep against her sides while she quietly hummed to herself, occasionally giggling under her breath for no reason at all.
How serious was this place...?
"As you can see, Mondays are usually slower." The boss casually continued as if gigantic living Teletubbies were normal. "It gets busier later in the week." Eventually he stopped in front of a small office and opened the door for you. Cozy, simple, comfortable. A desk with a computer connected to the cameras, a window overlooking part of the daycare, some old decorations, and a single metal door.
"You'll use the computer for cameras and maintenance reports. Spare keys are in the drawer, emergency repair tools are under the desk, and there's a guidebook there in case one of the Tubbybots needs assistance. They can be a bit of a handful sometimes, but they love meeting new staff."
He handed you a badge marked with a smiling sun symbol. "Scanning badge. Don't lose it or the Tubbies might think you're lost somewhere in the building."
"So yeah, keep the place secure until 6AM when the day crew arrives. Keep the entrances locked, do routine checkups, help if the bots ask for anything, feel free to grab leftovers from the kitchen, throw old food out in the morning, all that stuff." He leaned against the doorway with a relaxed smile.
"Any questions, kiddo?"
