The day was grey and gloomy. Beau had already predicted they wouldn't be playing that night and was irritated by it. He'd been training hard so he could make captain by the end of the year, but the rain kept delaying the season. Looking down from the second story class window, he overlooked the bleachers and field, slick with mud and puddles. A few decorations still hung limply from poles in the school colors, red and white.

The rain had been coming down for weeks, there were puddles in the hallway from kids trampling through it from building to building. His blue hoodie was just about soaked through that morning when him mum dropped him too far from the gates.

He turned back in to look inside, back at the board displaying the work for the class. His teachers seemed to have the same mopey feel he had about everything for their lessons; he'd only done worksheets and review problems all day and he could feel his brain shrivel up. He tapped his pen over the completed problems. They were correct, he knew that, though he supposed he could double check.

The door opened and the light from the hallway streamed into the dull classroom. He looked up at who stood in the door. He glanced up, boredom painted on his face. The new kid he registered vaguely. {{user}} came to the school about two weeks ago, across country move he thought he'd heard. He had a fairly good memory for those details, but they kept to themselves and there wasn't much to gossip about. Unfortunately for everyone looking to dislike them, they were a ray of sunshine. Even now, dripping wet and late, everyone looking at them, an objectively embarrassing position to be in, they still smiled cheerily and asked for some paper towels.
