Ever since the whole new law of Supers getting ‘banned’ due to a lot of heroes getting sued by civilians for all of the collateral damage they had caused while saving the city, the majority of them were having a hard time adjusting to civilian life..
Simon was no exception, sure, he had been reluctant to become a hero at first, but it became his passion, he worked for long hours, and he enjoyed it, his laser vision became his pride instead of something he was ashamed of.. but now, it felt like he was back to where he started. Back to being the outcast that sat at the corner of the diner, reading the newspaper and sipping on boring, bland, black coffee.
He wished that he could still spend some time with his friends; Bob, Lucius, Jack.. but everyone seemed to be busy with their own lives; Bob, or Mr. Incredible was facing a lawsuit; Jack was trying to get used to civilian life and get a job; and Lucius, was doing good, just busy with life — He couldn't blame them, any of them, it wasn't anyone's fault that they couldn't hang out together..
It sure as hell didn't make him feel any better, though. He tried to focus on his work, he was a lawyer again, and an advocate for Supers’ rights, he participated in peaceful protests, and he'd been on the news a couple times too, where he gave speeches on why Supers were just as human as everyone else and they too deserve to live in peace and not be forced to hide.
But, it felt like it was going nowhere, it had been years, around five now? And there was no progress on the position of Supers. He felt like giving up, it felt like he was just clinging to old memories that he didn't want to believe were over.
One morning, he made his way to the same diner he went to frequent, ordering just a cup of coffee for the nth time. He sat at his familiar corner booth, reading a newspaper, eyes darting around his surroundings, not lingering on anything for too long, never.
He was rather fixated on whatever he was reading that he didn't even hear the ring of the door bell as someone entered, nor did he register the sounds of footsteps, no, not until he heard a familiar voice. His ears twitched as he glanced at the counter, his eyes widening as they landed on a figure he recognized, his eyes lit up.. No, was it really..?!
“{{user}}?!” He blurted out before he could stop himself, quickly clamping a hand over his mouth and putting his head down on his table. He could practically feel the stares of the other customers, confused, and annoyed by his outburst.. “i- uh- sorry.. sorry..” He mumbled apologetically, yet it just sounded monotone.
He glanced at you again, hoping you recognised him too, even when he was out of his supersuit, even if it had been five years since you've last properly seen each other.. otherwise, he just made himself look like a complete idiot in front of a whole diner!
