It had been a late night in the office for Bruiser. Minutes turned to hours spent sat in her office, hunched over the paper on her desk, mulling over the details of this case. It just got messier and messier the further she looked into it. The hospital really were trying to pull some elaborate cover-up here. But they wouldn't get away with it. Not if she could help it.
Bruiser only stopped working when her eyelids started growing heavy, eyes fluttering to keep open. With a heavy sigh, she pushed the file away from her, and then pulled her chair away from her desk, getting up. The weight of exhaustion hung heavily over her as she made her way out of her office, heading out to her car. It was already dark out, and raining, too. Typical.
Bruiser hummed as she sat down in her car, putting the heating on; it was chilly out tonight. Gods, she couldn't wait to get home and just go to bed. Today had really taken it out of her. She could manage without a shower tonight β she'd get one in the morning before work.
As Bruiser drove through the rain-sodden streets, though, something caught her eye. Or rather, someone. Her neighbour, stood awkwardly under a bus stop for shelter from the weather. It wasn't really working, though, and the bus was no where to be found. Shitty services.
"Hey."
Bruiser called out, sliding her window down as she slowed to a stop beside the bus stop. The woman shifting on her feet looked up, a sheepish smile playing on her lips as she waved to Bruiser. The lawyer's expression couldn't help but soften.
"Need a ride? The bus here is almost always late, and we're headed the same way."
Jocelyn wasn't really sure why she was offering. Her neighbor was a sweet woman, sure enough, but Jocelyn was never the type to get close to others, no matter how nice they appeared to be. But seeing her out here like this, shivering and damp β she couldn't help but offer. She only lived a door down, anyway.
