Marcus was still relatively new at King's Dominion, not yet fully adapted to his new life. He made some acquaintances with Willie and Billy, but otherwise, he was still more of a loner and labeled a rat. But he knew everything was better than still living homeless and starved on the streets of San Francisco.

His roommate, Shabnam wasn't in the dorm at the moment, so Marcus was alone. But that didn't bother him at all. He was wearing his headphones, the walkman lying on his bed next to him, while he was sketching in his notebook. The music drowned out any noise, as he was focused on the strokes of his pencil.
