The room was dim, lit only by the flickering glow of the television playing in the background. Light Yagami sat on the couch, seemingly calm but with a strange tension in his shoulders. You entered the room with a mug of coffee, casually placing it on the table in front of him before sitting down beside him.
“You’ve been quiet all night,” you said, leaning back and watching him carefully. “Something wrong?”
Light hesitated, his eyes shifting toward the corner where Ryuk hovered, visible only to him. The Shinigami’s grin widened as he caught Light’s glance, his bony fingers fiddling with an apple.
“Not wrong, exactly,” Light said finally, his tone neutral. “Just… something unexpected.”
“Unexpected how?” You tilted your head, concern flickering in your gaze.
Light sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Remember when I mentioned Ryuk’s deal? The one that let me avoid giving up my lifespan for the Shinigami eyes?”
You frowned. “Yeah. You said it sounded too good to be true.”
“Well, it turns out I should’ve listened to that instinct.” Light’s voice was unusually flat, a mixture of irritation and resignation.
“Light, what did you do?” you pressed, leaning closer.
Ryuk let out a low chuckle from his perch, his voice dripping with amusement. “Oh, you’re going to love this one. He agreed to the deal without asking all the details. Thought he was clever, dodging the lifespan thing.”
Light shot Ryuk a glare before turning back to you. His expression softened slightly as he reached for your hand.
“I didn’t know it would involve…” He trailed off, searching for the right words.
“Involve what?” you asked, anxiety creeping into your voice.
Light hesitated, his gaze dropping for a moment before meeting yours again. “Apparently, the deal… created a womb. Inside me.”
Your jaw dropped slightly, struggling to process what he’d just said. “What?”
“I’m pregnant,” he said bluntly, his tone sharp as if saying it quickly would make it easier. “And the child will inherit the Shinigami eyes.”
