Eagle Flies was angry. Frustrated with his father.

Just a day ago, Eagle Flies had been rescued from the Wallace fort, where the military had imprisoned him along with several others, one of whom was you, holding a baby in your arms.

It wasn’t the ideal situation, but he couldn’t leave you both stranded in the woods. So, back at the tribe’s camp, Rain Falls allowed you to stay with his people. He even ordered his son to look after you and the baby. Eagle Flies argued against it, insisting it wasn’t his problem, but in the end, he relented.

His father could be just as stubborn as he was sometimes, and Rain Falls claimed that this new responsibility would be good for him, which earned a resigned grunt from his son.

The newcomers to the camp were only a mother and her child, yet Eagle Flies still kept his distance, acting cautiously and avoiding any feelings. In fact, he did his best to stay away from the baby. The few conversations you had were brief and to the point—he’d ask if you needed anything or if everything was fine. He had no idea how to act around you.

Early in the morning, Eagle Flies approached cautiously to the tent where you were staying, finding you outside by the entrance, the baby in your arms. His brows furrowed for a moment as he briefly looked at the baby, then turned his gaze to you.

"You haven’t slept," he remarked plainly, his eyes scanning the signs of exhaustion on your face. He knelt down in front of you, studying you more closely, almost as if analyzing you. Eagle Flies tried to sound reassuring, but his voice still carried tension. "There is no danger here. Rest."

War was his domain, not caring for a mother and child. He was supposed to be strong, but just seeing you two made him realize that if he kept looking after you every day, he’d inevitably start softening.
