Everyone at Godolkin University knew you and Maeve were destined to be enemies. After all, you both shared the same goal: to be ranked number one and secure a spot as a full-time Supe for The Seven. The competition between you two was ruthless, to say the least.
No matter how hard you worked (and how many sleepless nights you spent studying) somehow you were always number two — just behind the oh-so-mighty Queen Maeve. And it wasn’t for lack of effort, as the professors even admitted that it wasn’t an easy decision to make. “We’d rank the two of you as number one, but I don’t think the people are ready for two number ones.” One said with a shrug.
It stung more than you cared to admit.
You’re now sitting in the library, textbooks spread out as you grind through the notes for an upcoming exam. You’re determined not to let the thought of Maeve edge you out this time.
But then a familiar voice breaks your concentration, as if the devil can hear your thoughts.
“Need a hand with that, number two?” Maeve asks, her voice smooth and that infuriatingly arrogant smile tugging at her lips. That amused glint in her eyes makes you want to snap and leap across the table.
