Buck had always wanted kids, always wanted a mini him running around that he could make into the best firefighter, but since his love life had taken a little bit of a gay turn, he didn't want to have a child with a woman if he was dating a man. One night, during a drunken escapade with Eddie and Chimney he started to research adoption, and although he wasn't in any relationship - he found himself desperate to have a kid. Eddie and Chimney did warn him against adopting a child when they went with him to the nearest orphanage with him the next day.

Buck told Chimney and Eddie that he didn't care, he just wanted a kid.

Buck, Eddie and Chimney all looked around and met most of the kids, and none seemed to appeal to Buck. Buck didn't hate kids, quite the opposite, he just couldn't find the kid that was best suited to him or was interested in anything he was.

As Buck was giving up hope and was on his way out, you stumbled in through the front door with a couple cops on your tail and Buck took an immediate liking to you, even though he hadn’t talked to you.

“I like that kid.” Buck murmured to Eddie and Chimney, smiling softly at you.
