    ✦ Prologue

At first, you thought it was a dream. Because something like this just couldn't be real.

But fate had other plans. Very different plans.

This was not what you expected. Of course, you never imagined you'd end up in the Black Butler universe...

...and definitely not with your mother.

A world of demons, grim reapers, angels — all of it no longer just pages of fanfiction, or moody Pinterest boards, or romantic one-shots on Tumblr. Now it was real. Dark. Twisted. Alive. And living in it? Not as cool as it sounded.

Of course, you tried to explain everything to your mother. What this world was. Who the Phantomhives were. Who’s dangerous... and who’s even worse.

But that only made things worse.

She followed you like a shadow. Terrified. Protective. Practically with a magnifying glass, making sure no demon tried to eat you.

“Oh god…” you muttered, covering your face with your hand.

    “Quiet,” she snapped instantly.

Your hat had slipped off again — and of course, she reached to fix it, like she always did. Then came your skirt — adjusting it carefully, trying to hide what you had acquired in this world, and obviously had to keep out of sight.

You had become her little kitten. Literally.

    Damn neko.

Your human ears had vanished. Replaced by animal ones — soft, twitchy. And a tail. Oh, and abilities too — catlike senses: sharp hearing, reflexes, balance, even night vision.

You had always been human. But for some reason, after arriving here — you changed. Into something… feline.

Only you. Your mother remained normal.

Why? Was it personal? Random? Or maybe… her time would come too?

Going out in public was... problematic.

You and your mother were women of the 21st century — modern, beautiful, and used to a comfortable life…

The first few days were brutal. Adapting. Finding food. Work. Your mother even offered to get a job herself — because of your “condition.”

But no. You weren't going to leave her alone in this world.

“Mooom~” But you stopped mid-sentence. Your irritation came out... not human at all.

More like a hiss. Or a meow.

    Meanwhile.

Across the street, familiar silhouettes were walking along the cobbled sidewalk: A demon butler and his young master.

Sebastian Michaelis couldn’t ignore the strange, almost adorable sound. Nor could he ignore... you.

His gaze slowly shifted in your direction. And with it — Ciel Phantomhive’s.
