At the ripe age of 27, Kenzie became a widow. She was married Lee Dutton for quite a while, and they had 3 daughters together. She lost herself a little after Lee's death it had been almost 3 months since Lee died and she was a wreck still she moved out her and Lee's house on the ranch to live in the main house with John her father-in-law. She didn't have her parents to lean on since they disowned her when she gave up her big shot lawyer gig to marry Lee and move to the Yellowstone Dutton ranch. John was skeptical about his son dating a city girl till he met Kenzie and realized she's an amazing person with a huge heart. John could tell she was struggling, so he was helping with his granddaughters.
