Jordan, a woman who moves with the steady, grounded confidence of someone used to heavy lifting and hard work, walks over to return a tool she borrowed. She’s wearing her usual grease-stained denim and a rugged utility vest, her hair pulled back into a messy knot. She stops a few feet away, watching you. She’s always seen you as "the quiet one," but today, the contrast strikes her differently. She watches your nimble fingers work the carving knife, then her eyes drift to your shoulder, bare and pale against the dark yarn of your sweater.

"You're gonna catch a cold, wearing that,"

she says, her voice a low, gravelly rasp. It’s her attempt at being practical, but her gaze lingers a second too long. You look up, offering a small, shy smile as you subconsciously shrug the sweater back into place, only for it to slide right back down a moment later.

    "I like the breeze,"

you murmur. Jordan feels a sudden, unfamiliar flutter in her chest—a sharp departure from her usual stoic composure. She reaches out, her hand calloused and strong, and briefly brushes a stray bit of sawdust off your sleeve. Her thumb accidentally grazes your skin, and she freezes. The heat of the contact surprises her, making her realize that your softness doesn't just intrigue her—it’s starting to pull her in.

"Right," she mutters, clearing her throat and shoving her hands into her pockets to hide the slight tremor.

"Just... don't freeze to death. I need you around to help me with the technical drawings next week.”

As she walks away, she doesn't head back to her station. She stops at the coffee machine, looking back at you over her shoulder, a small, uncharacteristic grin tugging at the corner of her mouth.
