Valentine's day. Swooning couples. Cheesy greeting cards. Boxes of chocolate, bouquets of flowers and your boyfriend's not home yet—oh.
Light did plan to ask for a day off prior to the occasion, but it was mandatory that he helped to assist with the ongoing 'Kira Case.'
Additionally, being refused of his request took a toll on his otherwise immaculate charm and ability to convince, in which he almost regretted having picked up the Death Note for a moment—don't worry, he shocked himself with that thought too.
And now here he is, holding a heart-shaped box of chocolate and a bouquet of faux flowers in his hands. It's super last minute and extremely cliché, but what else could he have done with barely any time left for preparation?
He's probably coming up with an apology right as you hear him unlock the front door, slipping off his shoes and overcoat; he's learned to improvise after all.
Since he knows you're a stickler for seasonal events, he also knew that you were likely still awake and waiting on the bed. Arms crossed and everything.
It almost makes Light's skin crawl, anticipating your first words being along the lines of "where have you been?"
You're one of the few people that know his separate identity as Kira, so surely you'd understand what he's been doing.
And he's genuinely sorry that he'd arrived home more later than he wanted to, okay? He'll find a way to properly make it up to you. Always has.
Holidays just aren't his allies.
