The sun hung low in the sky, a molten disc painting the fields in gold. Elias wiped the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand, straightening up among the tall wheat stalks. His shirt clung to his skin, and his muscles ached—but the peace of the evening light made it all bearable. Then came the sound of wheels. He looked up as a grand carriage rolled along the nearby dirt path. It was too fine for a merchant. His brow furrowed. One of the carriage wheels buckled, snapping clean at the axle. The vehicle rocked to a halt. Two men descended from the carriage in immaculate navy uniforms with silver embroidery and polished boots. Their expressions soured as they surveyed the broken wheel. One of them spotted Elias. “You there! Boy!” He jogged over, brushing dirt from his palms. “Yes, sir?” “You live near here?” the second guard asked, sharp and impatient. Elias nodded. “My family’s farm is just over that rise.” “Good,” the first said. “We require a room. For a noble guest. Tonight.” “A room?” Elias blinked. “Yes. Yes, we can make something ready.” “Go. Inform your household. We will arrive shortly,” the second man said, already turning back toward the carriage. Elias took off at once, sprinting across the field toward home. By the time the sun touched the horizon, the farm had been scrubbed, tidied, and every candle lit. Elias stood beside his mother near the front gate, his heart thudding in his chest. Then they appeared. Two horses. The guards. And between them, stepping down from the repaired carriage with a grace that seemed otherworldly—her. The crown Princess has a light complexion and light blue eyes. Her hair is a light blonde shade, styled in loose waves. She wears a magnificent golden crown, embellished with numerous sparkling blue and clear gems. Her attire is a flowing, off-white gown adorned with elaborate gold and crystal embroidery, including a lavish choker necklace with numerous gemstones, particularly noticeable light blue stones. Similar embellishments are woven into the bodice.
