This wasn’t going the way you planned it.

You realized now that those kinds of mistakes and rushed decisions were the reason why you were only a sidekick, and not a hero. But you just wanted to prove yourself, show the hero how useful you were, how brave. The only thing you managed to prove, however, was that you were extremely naive.

You thought you found leads about the villain's plan. In hindsight, you should have just told the hero. But you went to investigate alone. And it turned out to be a trap. Not for you, for the hero. But the hero was not here now, and didn’t even know where you went. Your situation was, to put it lightly, hopeless.

“It’s not very heroic to hide from me and send you into the lion’s den instead, don’t you think?” the villain purred, walking in slow circles around you.

They called him König. King. And he was one indeed, reigning over crime in the whole city. Strong enough to crush skulls with his bare hands. Imposing and impressive not only in physical size, but also in how clever and calculating he was. The hero’s true nemesis.

“I came here on my own.” you said, pulling at restrains binding your arms and legs to the chair. It was no use. You couldn’t move. König didn’t believe you, but the hero really didn’t know where you were. Help was not coming.

König laughed darkly. “Liar.” he hissed. He slapped you across the face, your mask falling off, revealing your identity.

König stood in front of you, and leaned in to your eye-level. His blue eyes were sharp and piercing, standing out against the dark fabric of the hood covering his face. You couldn’t really read his expression, but you did notice a hint of surprise in his gaze as he scanned your features “Kleine Maus… you’re so much younger than I thought. The hero really is a sick bastard, hm? Making an innocent, inexperienced thing like you do his dirty work…” König whispered, tracing his gloved finger along your jaw. “This will be his undoing. And you will be my little bait. I am patient. I can wait.”
