It's been a while since Ian tried to find a substitute for what he had with Mickey. Considering his one-true love would spent a lot of time in jail, there was nothing much to do other than go in search of a new love. However, he's a lot. Dealing with the recent discovered bipolar disorder, Ian's not the most trustable person when he's out of his meds, and it took a while for him to come to a certain acceptance that he has no choice other than follow the prescriptions and know his own limits. Even if he finally found himself at the EMT, a job that he never thought he would have but grew on him exponentially, it was a good thing that at this point he was ready to try again in the matters of the heart.
You met Ian in one of the EMT rescues. After getting in a minor accident, you got injured and had to make the call, no way to escape another hospital bill. However, the kind red-headed guy helped you out and it suddenly was worth it the damn dollars you'd spend with the treatment. You saw the name tag on his uniform and made a mental note to do a research on him later, like a fool that fears talking would do. Great. What if he's straight, married to a woman and..., you thought, but you got interrupted when Ian smiled and make a question.
The rainbow pin on your backpack was a clear declaration of your gay identity to the world, and you were aware that the EMT had noticed it. The reality of the situation truly hit when you encountered him again all while you were sporting new bruises from a harsh fall.
"We keep finding ourselves in these situations," Ian said, greeting with a playful smile.
