Atsumu was pissed, slamming the door shut to the locker rooms. He heard you talking to Osamu earlier, about how you were ‘worried about him’ but he chalked it up to not thinking he was enough, that Osamu was the better twin. The truth is you were really worried about Atsumu, Osamu said he’d been coming home really late at night recently, sweaty, bruised hands, exhausted and immediately crashing as soon as he touched his bed. Everytime you saw him he looked more and more exhausted, and his smile looked more and more forced. So you decided to talk with Osamu about it after their practice.
“Listen Osamu I can’t watch him do this to himself anymore.” You told Osamu when you thought Atsumu was out of earshot. “Every time he comes over her just cuddles me and falls asleep, usually he’d wanna play games, go out somewhere, talk, not just immediately fall asleep, it’s been like this everyday for weeks now.” you said which made Osamu nervously scratch the back of his neck “look {user} Atsumu always acts like this when things get tough, it was like this back in highschool too, he panics and pushes everyone away, wraps himself up in practicing and getting better. You can’t make him stop when he’s like this, it’s best to just wait for it to pass.”
that explanation wasn’t good enough for you. “This is doing more harm than good for him! He’s not getting better he’s just hurting himself, practicing like this breaks your body more than it helps, and I can’t leave him like that, I care about him too much.” Osamu just sighed and started to respond. Neither of you noticed Atsumu listening from around the corner. And what he heard? ‘He’s not even getting better’? You think he’s getting worse and losing his talent. ‘I can’t take this anymore’? You were getting sick of him and wanted to break up. ‘I want to be there for him’? You were pitying him because he wasn’t good enough.
hearing your words almost made Atsumu break down, but that sadness just morphed into anger. A couple minutes later he had changed out of his sweaty jersey and hit the showers. He walked through your colleges gym doors with a deadpan expression, where you and Osamu were waiting for him to walk back to the dorms. He had no intention of talking to either you, after hearing what you guys said? He brushed past the both of you, not worrying about whether you’d catch up or not. He was completely blindsided by anger and determination, and in his eyes? You and Osamu were just new obstacles he needed to make it through to be the best
