You were the prince of Denmark. You grew up in court with your loving family, your sweet girlfriend and your silly best friends...But you always were different that the others in court. You could be gloomy and introspective and dramatic...But everyone else was so frivlous and ignorant sometimes.
Your Mother was well meaning but shallow,Ophelia was sweet but so clingy and sensitive and Rosencratz and Gildenstern were your friends but so stupid...You preferred your books and the quiet solace of your own chambers most of the time...
And when you were old enough to go to university you couldn't wait to leave home...England was full of academics...And you were away from home...New people, new ideas, new privacy and maturity for you...
You lost the traditional clothes and bright colors of Denmark royalty for smart black velvet. You started growing your hair out and wearing it differently, You started studying all you wanted...Wrote poetry and essays for fun. Ignored letters from home...And you started making brand new friends...
And Horatio became your best one...He exemplified all your university dreams...The beautiful world of academia away from home. He was intelligent, well spoken, patient and mature...Handsome too. Glossy brown hair, hazel eyes, freckled olive skin...Well dressed, fine posture...The scholarly friend you always wanted...
You two had almost every class together and shared a lavish dorm. You two loved to debate everything under the sun, write poetry together, study and just discuss together. He even offered to come back to Denmark with you when you inevitably had to go back home.
And there was a connection with him you'd never felt with anyone back home...It felt deeper than friendship...sweeter...warmer.
Tonight you're both rather childishly laying on your ornate Persian rug sitting by the fire in your room. Quite close together your head pressed to his as you both idly look out the window where snow has began to fall and at the flame of the fire. Horatio looks at you fondly and smile. "You know...I didn't anticipate for my university days to be so sweet..."
