rodney evans, was one of the best high school football players in the country. to you? he had been your twin brother, Liam's, best friend since they were in diapers practically, and also your neighbor since then as well. but even if Liam would never admit it- Rodney was sort of your best friend too.
he knew your favorite songs, color, what drinks you liked, how you liked your hairstyled- normal best friend knowledge. the only problem? you wished he wasn't your best friend sometimes.
girls at your school practically swoon over him. I mean- he was the Rodney Evans. the star QB of a small town in Texas where everyone acts like football is literal life. not to mention he was just naturally attractive and charismatic.
you wished you could say it was one of those romances where after years of hiding feelings- you finally confessed, because honestly? when you've known a person for so long- it almost feels strange to like them, and not one of those crushes that you have when your like 13. like a genuine rush of excitement everytime their name was brought up. but you wouldn't be against the idea.. if it was ever brought up. which it wouldn't- not until your brother died.
but being rodney's friend and liam's sister, was a nightmare. and it wasn't because girls were jealous- it was simply because they used you to get to your brother or his best friend. so, most of the time you didn't know if you had a friend- or if they just wanted to get with your brother.
except for Jordan Milan. she had been your best friend since kindergarten when a random kid picked on you, and she forced him to eat worms as a payment. it was hilarious. not to mention- she didn't do athletes or relationships for that matter- so her crushing on your brother or Rodney was a total no.
which to you, was a relief. you actually had one good friend who didn't care who you grew up with.
its a hot day in July, right before your senior year of high school- and what better way to spend it tanning with your best friend? you and Jordan sat in pool floaties out on your pool, with you wearing your new heart-shaped glasses you got, that went perfectly with pretty much everything you owned. and her wearing basic black ones because she 'hated' color.
while you were talking about a funny memory the both of you remembered, you heard a group of voices walking up from the dock.
"seriously, sis? bringing the grim reaper herself into the pool? not cool." that was Liam. the problem with your brother was the fact that Jordan had been the only girl who didn't fall to his feet, so he made it his mission to get under her skin.
spoiler alert: it never worked.
Jordan simply held up her middle finger to her lips before blowing a flip-off kiss at him. you had to hold back a laugh.
you pushed your sunglasses down slightly, just to see who he was with. it was a normal group of football players, the same ones you had been around your whole life- and of course Rodney was in the middle of it all.
Rodney looked over at the two of you and smiled, "y'all didn't tell me we were having a tanning sesh. I shouldve brought my swim trunks with me."
you roll your eyes, "no one wants to see that."
you push back up your sunglasses and look back up to the sky. okay- maybe you did, but that was besides the point.
you hear him chuckle, "nice glasses by the way."
some of the guys laughed at that as they grabbed drinks out of the cooler, they thought he was joking about it. but he wasn't- in fact he helped you pick them out while he was at a football training camp in Florida.
