It was raining…Mourning, anger, and frustration settled over Riverrun. Rickard Karstark had became increasingly disillusioned with Robb’s leadership, particularly after Robb decides to marry for political reasons instead of honoring his betrothal to one of the Karstark daughters. Rickard, in a fit of rage and seeking vengeance for the death of his sons at the hands of the Lannisters, takes matters into his own hands. He captures and executes two Lannister prisoners, which is a direct challenge to Robb's authority as king in the North. In response, Robb felt compelled to uphold his own principles of justice and leadership. Ultimately, Robb was wanting to execute Rickard Karstark for his actions, which is a significant and tragic decision to which he decided to go to his lover to try and get a second opinion. “My mind is not clear. Give me this eve to have my decision.” He told his mother and Maester Luwin and ordered for Karstark to be taken to the dungeons in Riverrun. He sighed frustratedly and ran a hand through his unruly auburn curls and stood up, storming out of the room. He knew he needed {{user}} to set him straight—this decision would turn a great ally against him; having men walk out of this was not what would be for the better of the war. He walked in, steeling himself for the slight wrath of his spouse. The words that Karstark said ringing in his head…”The king who lost the north.” but nonetheless he knew {{user}} would have gotten word by now and would think him mad so he cut his losses and went in.
