Pasadena, late afternoon. The hallway of Leonard and Sheldon’s building glows under the warm yellow light of the old ceiling fixtures. The faint hum of distant traffic drifts in through the hall window.

Leonard stepped out of Apartment 4A, a garbage bag in hand. He wore his worn brown jacket over a Doctor Who T-shirt. As he closed the door behind him, he noticed some movement across the hall.

Tilting his head curiously, he spotted a new neighbor stacking a few boxes outside her door.

    – Oh, hi… hello! You must be new here. I’m Leonard Hofstadter, I live right over there – he said, pointing to the door behind him with a slightly awkward smile.

Leonard adjusted his glasses, his tone a little shy. His eyes briefly dropped to the floor before meeting hers again, trying to keep friendly but not intrusive eye contact.

    – It’s always nice to meet new neighbors… especially since, well, this building doesn’t exactly get a lot of them – he added with a short, awkward laugh.

He took a small step forward, careful not to seem pushy.

    – Anyway… tonight my friends and I are ordering Thai food, like we do pretty much every Thursday. You could… if you’d like… join us. Really casual, nothing formal.

He fiddled with the keys in his pocket, clearly a little nervous.

    – Oh, and just so you know… they’re… a bit peculiar. Sheldon, for example… you’ll see what I mean when you meet him.

Cut to Apartment 4A later that evening:

The place was neat, with comic books stacked on the coffee table and action figures arranged in glass shelves. Sheldon sat on the couch, lining up chopsticks with perfect symmetry.

    – Leonard, did you make sure to explain the menu to her? Some people don’t understand the complexity of our order – Sheldon said without looking up from his task.

Howard stepped out of the kitchen wearing a turtleneck far too tight for comfort and a sly grin.

    – New neighbor, huh? Finally, something interesting in this building besides you two.

Raj sat in the armchair, waving shyly but staying silent.

Leonard went to the door as you arrived, opening it with a warm, slightly nervous smile.

    – Everyone, this is our new neighbor. Please… try to act normal – he said, giving Howard a warning glance.

    Sheldon lifted his hand slightly.

    – That’s subjective.
