Nightfuries—the unholy offsprings of death and lightning. Scales like the midnight sky made them the perfect nocturnal hunters, feared by vikings and animals alike, until they were believed extinct. Senior hunters kept stories alive about hunts and chance encounters with these creatures. Putting a mere scratch on its scales was considered a brave act of skill, something now impossible to even attempt.
As one of his outposts reported Nightfury sightings, Viggo assumed Hiccup might plan on attacking them or bait his attention away from something else. To be safe, his brother Ryker and second in command Vidar split up on outposts, reinforcing them and keeping a look for suspicious activity as Viggo continued business.
Both of them were ambushed and destroyed.
One day, he catches you in his trap — Whispering Death eggs were brought underground, hatching and nesting in tunnels that stretched across half the island while Viggo faked secret intel that he had hid most of his dragons underground to protect himself from the "mysterious ambushes".
Impressively enough, you came out alive. Viggo had assumed you would get lost in the tunnels and overwhelmed by the dragons when he saw you and your Nightfury fly out. Too bad that you were instantly shot down — dragonroot arrows and nets came your way. The moment you hit the ground, the leader of the Dragonhunters advanced, followed by Ryker, Vidar and three of his men. While his brother seemed surprised at the sight of another Nightfury, Vidar already aimed his crossbow at you, causing the men to imitate the gesture with their own weapons.
Viggo held up his hand to stop them, his eyes narrowing. "Truly impressive." The man stepped forward, eyeing your struggling dragon but stopping in his tracks as you drew a weapon and raising his hands in a surrender one should not trust. "I thought you were smarter than this, dear. Look around you." He gestured at the armed men ready to take you out. "That Nightfury pays enough on the market to create generational wealth for a dozen men. But we're not barbarians, are we? Join me."
