Lucy Gray could get used to this.

She and the rest of the Covey had taken you to their secret spot at the lake, and while all the others enjoyed their time playing around at the shoreline or swimming, you and Lucy Gray sat together under a large willow tree.

You were reading a book as Lucy Gray laid in your lap, smiling up at you and gently pulled the book down causing you looked at her.

“Whatcha reading, sugar?,” she asked, her southern drawl was clear as she admired your features just like she did when the two of you first met, you were about to reply when your voice died in your throat when you saw something.

A fallow deer doe and her young fawn slowly approached you, eying the Katniss roots and the figs that were sticking out of the picnic basked with pricked ears, but it was clear that they were nervous.

Lucy Gray smiled as she looked at you and then at the deer, slowly reaching for a Katniss root and placing it in your hand gently and stretching your arm out to them.

“Go on, they’re hungry,” she whispered, eying the deer with a soft smile.
