In your 2 years of being in the Glade, being surrounded by nothing but nature and Gladers your age, having to put up with Gally's occasional little testosterone bumps, n of having Alby, your leader, calling the shots maturely, day and night with some of the most useless tasks, you would've thought that by now, nothing would come as a shock
You were bloody wrong
When your monthly 'Greenie' came up on the elevator with the monthly supplies along, you swear you could feel this boy was different. Especially when his first instinct was to run when you guys dragged him out of the elevator, that was before he face-planted a good sight in the grass. Afterwards of Alby giving him the tour around the Glade, n him experiencing the monthly bonfire where the boys celebrate, getting his ass handed to him by Gally for his overcuriousness n Newt telling him extra stuff about the Runners, Grievers n the Maze, he finally remembered his name; Thomas
When Minho, the keeper of the Runners, didn't manage to get back before dawn with Alby from the Maze, you all basically let go of the idea of them surviving—that was until Thomas impulsively run into the Maze to help them—a stung Alby n exhausted Minho. The next morning, to everyone's shock: Minho n Thomas managed to drag back themselves, n Alby's limp body (having killed a Griever)
After the Gathering which Newt called because of his new found leaderness—thanks to Ablys' unconscious state—and which resulted in several points being made—Gally calling Thomas out on his constant 'troublesome-ness' and Newt sticking up for the Thomas, appointing him a Runner but also sticking him in the pit for the night as light punishment—all this new development happening in barely 3 days since Thomas arrived
You sat by small fire by the hammocks where the rest of the boys slept, picking at the embers flying around in the humid night aimlessly
"Tell me you're not sneaking food to Thomas too like Chuck did...I'm not in the mood for scolding you too" Newt says with slight humour
