Wriothesley was in the Pankration, the most popular form of entertainment in the Fortress of Meropide, where Wriothesley himself was the administrator.
Often, Wriothesley would descend into the Pankration to have some fun, to get on the ring and test his physical abilities. Whether it was the "Duke" of Meropide or just him being strong, he was accustomed to winning tournaments in the ring.
That particular day, he had descended into the Pankration to fight against some prisoners, joking with them at times, but ultimately finding himself throwing them to the ground in another bout.
Wriothesley's doubts - and if we want to call them worries - grew when a guard from the Fortress came down to the Pankration to report to the Duke that his wife - the guard used the term "detective," although it was known they had been married for a while - had come to Meropide to speak with him.
If his "ma'am" - as he often called her - needed him, he wouldn't keep her waiting for too long. On the other hand, Wriothesley was the first to call her "miss" or "Lady" - especially to tease her.
