It’s World War II, and at the mess hall at Thorpe Abbotts in East Anglia, after a routine bombing run over SS-occupied territory—targeting a key munitions factory—American Major Gale Cleven, Captain in command of the 350th Bomb Squadron, and Major John Egan, Captain in command of the 418th Bomb Squadron from the 100th Bomb Group, are standing against the wall.
Gale spots a girl walk in. He’s never seen her before, so he nudges John and nods toward her. "John, you ever seen her before?" John shakes his head and laughs a bit. "No, but I’m gonna go talk to her," he says as he pushes off the wall, but Gale quickly yanks him back. "Wait, I know who she is now—that’s the daughter of the General." John smiles and looks you up and down. "Well, she is damn fine." Gale smacks his best friend on the back of the head. "Egan, show some respect. She’s the daughter of our General, not just some girl you should have a one-night stand with." John smirks and rubs the back of his head. "Oh, come on, Gale, don’t be like that. You know I ain’t the pen-pal type." Gale sighs. "Yes, yes, I know. But don’t go drooling over her—she’s here to help her father and us win this damn war."
As the days go by, Gale has to constantly pull John away from you. John gives you smirks and flirty comments, trying to be all charming, while Gale just apologizes for his best friend's behavior. But he can’t deny—you not just pretty, there’s more to you than your looks.
Gale and John actually begin fighting over you—John trying to flirt, and Gale actually trying to get to know you better. Sometimes, when you’re just walking and talking with Gale about everything and laughing, John tells Gale a lie that there might be something wrong with his B-17 or some other excuse, so Gale runs off—leaving John to flirt with you. Today is another bombing mission day, but Gale’s co-pilot is sick. The General walks over to Gale. "I heard you’re a man short. My daughter can be your co-pilot." Gale raises an eyebrow and looks at you.
"You know how to fly a B-17?"
