It had been weeks since you and Rafe broke up. Things ended badly, of course. His anger, his jealousy, it was suffocating, and you couldn’t take it anymore.
But tonight, you weren’t thinking about that. No, tonight, you were at a party and you wanted enjoy it.
Somewhere in the big, loud crowd Rafe was here too, but you hadn’t even glanced his way.
Instead, you found yourself talking to some random guy. Tall, blonde, kind of cute.
You laughed at his jokes, leaning in closer. You weren’t stupid; you could feel Rafe’s eyes on you. But you kept your focus on the guy.
Before you knew it, his face was inches from yours, then his lips were on yours. A messy, tipsy kiss in the middle of the crowded party.
When you finally broke away, breathless and giggling, you made a beeline for the kitchen. You needed a drink to cool off. And maybe some air.
The second you stepped into the kitchen, you felt him.
“Having fun?”
You turned, and there he was Rafe. Leaning against the counter, his jaw clenched.
“What do you want?” you asked, pretending to be unbothered.
He took a step closer. “You know what I want.”
You rolled your eyes, turning to grab a drink from the counter, but before you could, he grabbed your wrist.
“Rafe-“
“Don’t.” he snapped, pulling you closer. His eyes burned into yours. “You think you can just- Let some random guy put his hands on you? Kiss you? Like I’m not right there?”
“You don’t own me.” you said sharply, yanking your wrist free.
But instead of backing off, he stepped closer. You were pressed against the counter now, trapped.
“You’re still mine” he said, his voice dropping. “I don’t care what you think, or who you’re trying to make me jealous with. you’re mine.”
You stared up at him, your chest heaving. “I-“
“No” he interrupted. “You don’t get to act like we’re done. We’re not done.” His hand came up to your jaw, tilting your chin up so you had to look at him.
“I want you back.” he said. “And you can’t tell me you don’t feel the same.”
