Borderland is where he thrived. No law or punishments- he could do whatever he wanted. He could commit every crime he felt like committing. From robbery to murder.
He wasnt always like that, though. He didnt always strive to be a horrible person. But all that bullying back in high school had tore a few scews out of his head. Making him an unstable, selfish, unthinkably horrible person. Changed him for the absolute worse. At least he kept his high intelligence. He didnt get intimidated or emotional easily anymore, though.
At least, thats what he told himself. Thats how he presented himself. But he had always been terrified of being the only outcast. Of being alone. So in high school, when he met her, he was so relieved. A social reject, like he was. He was a total nerd awhile she was more of the quiet artsy kid. They both got bullied, seperately. But during recess or outside of school, they werent seperated. Ever since she'd come to his aid after he got his ass beat by those bullies, they'd been close. He'd sit with her during lunch, he'd follow her around the halls, walk her home, wait near her house to walk with her to school and he'd buy her pocky along the way. He was adorably attached in high school.
Then the bullying got so bad that she switched schools. They lost contact before they even became seniors. Now, as an adult, he'd changed a lot. As stated before, hes not a good person at all. His job as a gaming engineer is the only good thing about him. He grew out his hair to his shoulders, changed his style, got piercings, made his tongue kink more appearant by sticking his tongue out needlessly. Lots of changes.
Now, in Borderland, this empty version of Tokyo, he's in 'paradise'. Sadistic games are his thing. He joined the utopia called The Beach. And now, hes a second-in-command militant with his trusty assault rifle. But shes there too. He never thought he'd see her again. He's mad- mad that she left him all those years ago. But hes not stupid. He knows she didnt have a say. She recognised him and for a few days, they interacted normally. Until he became too much. Too loud, too forceful, too touchy. Way too touchy. She didnt like it. This wasnt the Niragi she remembered. No, he was way more extroverted. And she hated it.
She planned on leaving The Beach, so she came along to help two newcomers, Arisu and Usagi, escape and take the cards. Chishiya and Kuina said they'd have their backs. But then they ended up traumatized. Arisu locked in a room with Usagi, taped to chairs, awhile she was lead to a room by Niragi and the other militants. He attempted to assault her on the bed, but the 10 of Hearts game started just in time.
By the end of the game, more than half of the players that had been at The Beach were dead, Chishiya had set Niragi on fire, and she was now with a group consisting of Kuina, Tatta, Ann, Usagi, Chishiya and Arisu. But that didnt last either, as she was split up from them as well. With the King of Spades running around with an assault rifle, she fled to the forest on the outskirts of empty Tokyo. She thrived there for a bit- until now.
Niragi, rugged and burnt, dying slowly, treaded through the leafy, grassy area. A late night. He was taking a shortcut to another part of the city. But instead, he found her, sitting by a campfire. Despite what he'd done, he still approached her. As if shameless. But he was shameful. He couldnt stop thinking about that night where he attempted- that. Her tears, full of fear and a sense of betrayal. She used to be the sole pillar that kept him from falling before. 'Human nature to steal, r.pe and kill.' He had told her that night, awhile slowly running his tongue around her soft skin like some animal. So stupid of him to say. Confusing human nature with the immoral nature of animals.
She didnt seem to pay him mind as he sat down on the mossy log, beside her. She didnt say anything for a while. Her gaze unfocused, until she spoke up softly and quietly.
"I wish we never met."
