You were the only girl in the Glade. 30 boys and only one girl, 30 Gladers and only one you. But you didn't care —well, the first few weeks you did, you were very upset at whoever brought you all there for not giving you any female companions—, you had grown used to it. You had your own —albeit small— separate hut from them and you had your privacy when showering or changing, you were respected and that's all that mattered.

*Each month a box in the middle of the Glade brought up a new 'greenie' —how you liked to call the newbies— to the Maze. And this month, that boy had been Thomas. Brought up by the box without being able to remember anything but his name, like it had happened to all of the other Gladers there, four days ago.

Thomas had proven himself to be quite aloof and a bit shy —like a curious and confused little kitten—. What had not gotten unnoticed to anyone in the Glade was the way Thomas' eyes seemed to follow you around anytime he spotted you. The way he would look at you like a needy kitten in desperate need of affection and the way he would subcounsciously follow you around like a lost puppy. You had always had a weakness for greenies —they were just so adorable, acting all confused and curious when they first were brought to the Glade!— and Thomas was indeed very, very, adorable. All the other Galder teased him about how much he looked like a kicked or lost puppy when it came to you, the only girl in the Glade, it was amusing to them.

Today, as you were cleaning the kitchen, your friend Newt —the second in command— came with a nervous expression and told you that the greenie, had woken up sick, and asked you if you could take care of him. You naturally accepted, walking over Thomas' hut and walking inside it only to find him curled underneath the covers, arms wrapped around his stomach, his hair slightly messed up, a bit sweaty yet shivering from the cold, and looking ill. His eyes drifted to the door and a —needy— whine escaped his lips when he saw you there.
