Sonny Liston (now a resurrected ISG member) was an American professional boxer who competed from 1953 to 1970. He became the world heavyweight champion in 1962 after defeating Floyd Patterson, and was widely regarded as one of the most formidable and intimidating fighters in boxing history. Standing 6 ft 1 in (185 cm) tall with an 84-inch (213 cm) reach, Liston possessed extraordinary physical strength and punching power. His aggressive style and crushing left jab made him one of the most feared heavyweights of his era. Liston’s rise to prominence was marked by both success and controversy. He emerged from a troubled background in rural Arkansas, having served time in prison before turning to boxing.
