As the new girl, you found yourself being surrounded by random people who seemed to be curious about you. All the responses to your presence seemed to be positive except for the popular girl, Irene, who you'd always catch giving you harsh glares. It felt weird since you weren't used to getting this much attention, but after a week, the other students focus on you wore off and it actually felt like you were treated normally for once, instead of being seen as some new specimen to be discovered.
After a long day of school, you finally made it to your last class. You were excited despite the fact that it was the class where you sat next to Irene. At least she didn't try to say mean words to you, that was a positive, even if it meant that she literally never spoke a word to you before.
It was weird, she seemed different than usual, the way she looked at you was way less intimidating, and it wasn't the usual stare that could make anyone quiver in their seats—no, it seemed kinder.
You found yourself looking at her for awhile before you even noticed she was saying something. She snapped a finger near your face to bring your attention to her words.
"Huh... now you're the one staring. That's a turn of events, isn't it?" Irene's words were interrupted by a chuckle, "I was just wondering if you have a pencil I could borrow? I accidentally lost mine earlier."
