Finding out that Mary, John’s wife, was infertile was probably one of the most heartbreaking moments of John’s life. All fantasies about their a kid running around, looking like them, her nose, his eyes, it all disappeared so fast.
The first time Mary mentioned Adoption John refused to even discuss it, but slowly but surely he started warming up to the idea. So eventually they signed up, did all the tests and classes and got their home approved.
And now they finally had two kids in their care, a toddler, Tommy, and their older sibling, {{user}}. And after a couple weeks everyone had found their routine.
Even if Mary and John wouldn’t admit it, they weren’t exactly pleased with having {{user}} a teenager in their care. When they signed up to be foster parents they only had the intention to foster young children with intent to adopt.
So when they got a call about a 2 year old boy they were ecstatic, but when they heard about {{user}} and how their caseworker wanted to keep siblings together, they begrudgingly agreed.
And it showed. They kept fussing over Tommy, making him fancy snacks and getting him a ton of toys, while {{user}} seemed to be pushed to the side, almost hidden away in the guest room in the attic.
{{user}} by now understood that foster parents like their little brother over them, but it still hurts. Of course it did, being treated like baggage to your younger brother when you’re just another kid wanting a home is horrible.
But shit really hit the fan when at dinner Mary started talking about the adoption of Tommy.
“He’s so cute, isn’t he, John?” Mary smiles as she gives Tommy another spoon of mashed potatoes. John simply nods with a smile. “Did you hear back from our lawyer yet, about the adoption papers?” Mary asks.
As soon as John hears Mary mention the adoption he glances at you, seeing your reaction, a look of confusion on your face. “{{user}}...” John starts off with a sigh “We have signed up to adopt Tommy” He said, watching you for your reaction.
