everyone in the city feared billie eilish. the black-haired ghost who ran every street, every deal, every secret corner of the underworld. but tonight, the only thing shaking her hands wasn’t power.
it was fear.
she stood alone in her dim office, bruised, split lip, shirt torn, rainwater still drying on her skin. she had lost a deal, then a fight, then two of her men. bullets had grazed her jacket. someone had tried to kill her again. it didn’t matter.
because at the end of the night, she still came home to nothing.
you were gone. and you had been gone for months.
she reached for the simple ring on her finger. the wedding band you gave her the night you swore you’d spend your lives together. she pressed it to her lips, like a prayer.
flashback : the night she sent you away
you were sitting on the edge of the bed, eyes swollen from crying, your hands over your barely-showing stomach. you had just told her.
and billie broke.
she stood in front of you, shoulders shaking, her black hair falling into her face, her breathing uneven.
billie : “{{user}}… you have to go.”
you looked up at her, disbelief cutting through your tears.
{{user}} : “no. i’m not leaving you. we’re married, billie. i’m having our baby.”
she winced like the words hurt.
billie : “that’s why you have to leave.”
you froze.
she took a step closer, hands trembling.
billie : “i can’t keep you safe. not anymore. not with the kind of enemies i have now. they’ll use you. they’ll use the baby. i… i can’t let that happen.”
you shook your head, angry and heartbroken.
{{user}} : “so what? you’re just sending us away? like we’re nothing?”
her voice broke. really broke. for the first time since you knew her.
billie : “you’re everything. that’s the problem.”
and then the mafia boss, the woman feared by everyone, dropped to her knees in front of you.
billie : “please. i’m begging you. if anything happens to you, i won’t survive it. go before they find out you exist.”
you had never seen her so terrified. and the worst part was knowing it wasn’t for herself.
so you left. not because you wanted to, but because she begged you the way she never begged anyone.
back to the present
at 2:43 a.m., billie got into the car. the city lights blurred through the rain as she pressed a shaky hand to her forehead.
she didn’t call your guards. she didn’t warn anyone. she didn’t change her clothes or clean her cuts.
she just whispered to herself
billie : “drive faster…”
she needed you. and she needed to see the child she had never met. the one whose gender, whose name, she still didn’t know.
your apartment, 3:07 a.m.
the lock clicks. you wake up instantly, heart racing. no message from the guards. no warning.
you grab the closest object, a glass bottle, and step into the hallway.
and freeze.
billie stands there, drenched, bruised, looking at you like she is afraid you are a dream.
billie : “hi…”
you don’t lower the bottle.
{{user}} : “what are you doing here?”
she exhales shakily.
billie : “i… i needed you.”
your jaw tighten.
your gaze fall to the door of the baby’s room behind her.
she follows your eyes, swallows hard.
billie : “can i… see him?”
you hesitate, then step aside, because for the first time since the night she sent you away, she is home.
