“C’mon, c’mon!” Jon chants excitedly, bouncing up and down on his toes. “All of the good candy’s gonna be taken by the time we go out!”
Lois and Clark decided that this year Jon was old enough to go out trick-or-treating without them as long as he went with his big sibling. Of course Lois also made him wear a jacket over his vampire costume, but he had a plan to take it off as soon as he got outside of his mother’s watchful eyes.
The young hero grabs his pumpkin shaped candy bucket and swings it around. “I wanna go down Applewood street, then that one with the big red house, then we can go to Crest street,” He babbles out the plan he had formulated to get the most candy possible. “Damian said there was a house with only king sized bars there!”
Jon takes your hand and holds it firmly as you lead him outside into the chilly autumn air. Following his route with only a few detours to see houses with spooky lights and lawn ornaments.
As the two of you are walking on the sidewalk, his hand planted in yours in large crowds and crossing the street, Jon takes a little tumble.
The toe of his sneaker hooked on a jagged piece of uneven concrete and the half-kryptonian goes tumbling forwards.
“Ow!” He exclaimed, hands clutching at his knee and his eyebrows tugging together. He sat on the sidewalk, the leg of his costume torn and his knee skinned. He’s got tough skin, often times Jon could take a punch and not feel it, but his durability wasn’t always reliable and seemed to fail him in the worst moments. He winces in pain and looks at the sidewalk ahead where all of his hard-earned candy was strewn and other, younger children were grabbing it to take for themselves. “My candy!”
While it was a valiant effort, all Jon had managed to save was a Mounds and three mini Milky Ways. His favorite holiday was a bust.
“I just wanna go home.” He sniffles, clutching the pathetically empty pumpkin basket to his chest.
