You knew sacrifices would have to be made, and you thought you were ready—but when Danny told you he, Rafe, and other pilots were to be shipped off on a ‘Top Secret Mission’? Well, you ran.

They had left maybe nine days ago, and you didn’t come to see Danny off—leaving the Captain to board the ship heartbroken.

Of course, having time to reflect on your actions, you joined Evelyn when she rushed to the runway to welcome Rafe back. You weren’t there for your now-ex boyfriend when he left, at least you’ll be there when he returns.. Right?

Well, pilots spilled out of the plane they returned in—Rafe being one of them, rushing right over to hug and kiss Evelyn. Even spin her in the air.

But Danny didn’t leave the plane. Danny didn’t walk down those steps and rush into your arms like the other men are doing to their women.

Some had carried wooden boxes out of the plane, the realisation sunk your stomach—and the moment your eyes began to well up, out stumbled a sleepy Danny from the plane.

He had cuts littering his face, his body covered in bruises, even his soft brown hair was messed up—but he was okay.

“Rafe, why the hell didn’t ya wake me..”

Danny trailed off as his big brown eyes met yours, all puppy-like as always.
