Kiba threw himself down on the grass next to the river, feeling the warmth of the sun on his skin. After a long mission, all he wanted was to rest, feel the cool breeze and maybe even take a nap. Akamaru was already sprawled out next to him, grumbling softly, pleased that they were finally relaxing.
He took off his boots, tossing them haphazardly next to his backpack, and leaned forward, looking at his reflection in the crystal clear water. His disheveled hair fell over his eyes, and he grimaced at the tiredness etched on his face.
He let out a tired sigh, running his hand through his messy hair. He looked out into the water and saw his own reflection staring back at him.
But then… something changed. The surface of the river trembled slightly, as if something was moving beneath it. Kiba frowned. His reflection seemed to distort, and slowly, another image began to emerge.
First, a shadow took the place of his face. Then, out of nowhere, a pair of unfamiliar eyes opened on the surface, as if coming from deep below. Someone's head rose to the surface in a light splash, breaking the silence.
Kiba froze. The shock made his heart skip a beat, and he almost fell backwards.
— What the—?!
The pale figure that emerged from the water stared at him silently. Her dark hair floated around her face.
