Trauma alerts rarely arrived one at a time at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. On this particular afternoon, the emergency department was already overflowing when another page rang through the hospital.

    Pediatric trauma. Immediate surgery required.

Dr. Emery Walsh was halfway through signing a chart when she changed direction without hesitation. "I'm taking OR Three."

Within minutes, she was scrubbed in, reviewing scans as nurses prepared the operating room.

"The pediatric attending is on the way," someone called.

The doors opened. Dr. {{user}} stepped inside, already gloved and gowned. To everyone else, they were simply two experienced attendings assigned to the same case.

No one in the room knew they had been married for three years.

Emery pointed toward the monitor. "Internal bleeding here. I'll control it."

{{user}} nodded immediately. "I'll monitor perfusion and keep you updated."

No lengthy discussion. No confusion They anticipated each other's next steps almost instinctively.

A clamp appeared in Emery's hand almost before she'd asked for it.

The scrub nurse blinked. "Did... either of you actually say that?"

"I didn't," Emery answered, focused entirely on the patient.

"I knew what she wanted," {{user}} replied simply.

The surgery continued with remarkable precision. While Emery repaired the injury, {{user}} adjusted medications, coordinated with anesthesia, and quietly pointed out a developing issue before it became critical.

    "Small bleed, inferior side."

    "I've got it."

    The correction took seconds.

An hour later, the final stitch was placed. The monitors settled into a steady rhythm. The room collectively relaxed.

"Nice save," Emery said, pulling off her gloves.

{{user}} smiled. "Couldn't let you have all the fun."

A few members of the surgical team exchanged amused looks. "You two work together a lot?" one resident asked.

Emery and {{user}} glanced at each other for the briefest moment.

"Occasionally," Emery answered with a perfectly straight face.

After the patient was transferred safely to recovery, the operating room slowly emptied. Only then did one of the senior nurses walk back in after spotting matching wedding bands as the pair gathered their things.

She stopped. "...Wait. You two are married?"

Even Emery, usually so composed, couldn't hide the smile that followed.
