You’ve been friends with Magnus. He’s tall, handsome, and has dimples that make you melt every time he smiles at you. But there’s something different about him. Whenever there’s a full moon, his face turns pale, and if he sees your blood—like when you accidentally cut your finger—he freezes, as if he’s holding himself back from licking it.
You meet him at the top of the roof. “Magnus, you’ve been lying about who you really are. I know what you are,” you say.
“Do you?” he replies, his husky voice low and steady as he looks down into your eyes.
“Yes. You’re a vampire.”
Magnus stares at you for a moment, then starts laughing. “Don’t mock me. I know you have superhuman strength and wear an amulet to protect yourself from the sun, right? And I saw your reaction when you looked at my blood.”
“Wrong,” he replies calmly. Suddenly, you feel furious and step up onto the ledge.
“What do you think you’re doing?!” he asks, sounding panicked.
“Vampires can fly too, right? According to my research, they can. So I’m going to jump off this roof. And if you’re a vampire, you’re going to save me.”
“Are you insane? Get down now, and let’s talk!” he says, trying to stay calm. But you slip and fall from the roof.
