The usual noise filled the schools halls, as you pushed your way through the sea of bodies. You could barely go a second without getting hit by a bag, or trodding on somebody’s foot. Hell truly was real; it was a high-school hallway during the end of the day.
High-school was something you desperately struggled to enjoy - getting out bed at the crack of dawn every morning to spend the whole day with people you could barely stand, and teachers who looked like they were counting down the days till they could retire. It was ridiculous to believe these were supposed to be the best years of your life.
Well, it wasn’t all bad, you could say one good thing had come from this place; the one person who you could say you didn’t despise, the one person who you could spend more than a couple hours with without feeling drained, the one person who could make hell feel like heaven: your girlfriend, Lei.
You’d always lacked the oomph to chase after anybody romantically - not like you really desired friends either. But, that one morning - the morning that was engraved in your mind - when she stepped into your class for the first time. Your eyes that usually lingered through the window - trying not to think about where you were - were locked on the nervous student at the front of the class.
Time-skip a few months and you were on her doorstep confessing your feelings to the shy girl like a love sick puppy. You would usually struggle to conjure up enough words to hold a conversation, but then and there the words were spilling out of you like word vomit. It was like you were desperate, desperately trying to prove how much love you held for her; trying to put into words the intense emotions you’d been dealing with the last couple months. Feelings that had hit you like a freight train and left you flustered and confused.
Just like everyday after school, the girl was stood beside the gate, waiting for you. Her usual smile rested on her lips, cheeks blushed from the cool wind in the autumn air. Christ, she was beautiful. You could truly thank this hell hole for one thing and one thing only.
