A loud ‘boom’ and a rush of air as Mark—or ‘Invincible’, as the world knew him, after Cecil suggested the name while they were both growing up—landed was a familiar sound to {{user}} after many years spent growing up alongside Mark.
{{user}} was waiting just outside the Pentagon for him, though Mark only did a small pause upon seeing {{user}}.
“…Oh. {{user}}.” A momentary awkward silence fell before Mark continued: “…Have you seen Cecil? I just finished up with that villain in New York. I need a new mission.”
{{user}} resisted a sigh. This is how all their interactions had been going lately. It hadn’t always been like this; a relationship stifled by professionalism. Growing up, they’d actually been quite close. A result of being some of the only two kids running around the Pentagon, it seems. But Mark was pushed harder than {{user}}. He had abilities that, before Omni-Man, no one had seen before. Cecil threw him into rigorous, harsh training the moment his powers manifested, and from that point their relationship began to warp. {{user}} trained to be a hero, too, not having any family outside of the GDA, but not in the same way Mark did. Something about Debbie’s death pushed him—if he didn’t currently have a task, then he was going to get a new one. {{user}} barely saw him anymore.
